I got into Kundalini Yoga from an academic standpoint initially. When I was starting out as a writer I was studying Joseph Campbell and found him talking about Kundalini and The Chakras. I thought that was interesting, especially since he was such an academic– steeped in mythology. It didn’t sound at all new-agey and etheric as so many people present it.
So when I saw a Kundalini Yoga class at the YMCA in Hollywood, I decided to try it. I’d like to say that I just jumped right in and it changed my life in a couple of weeks, but that’s not how it happened. At first, I did all different kinds of yoga from power to hatha to flow as well as kundalini. I mixed it up but I was still doing at least one or two kundalini classes a week. I also kept most of my bad habits, although with the yoga they started to decrease.
Things started to change, although I didn’t know it at the time. My life began to transform because of the yoga. Then, sort of by accident, I did my first 40 day meditation. I didn’t even know it was considered a meditation. I just needed to fix some things in my life and I’d heard this one teacher talking about some student who was “doing 40 days of yoga in a row.” I’d heard of people going to class every day for periods of time to make a change in their life so I asked what it was all about and she briefly explained. “Forty days breaks a habit of the mind,” she said. So I decided to make that day one of forty and I never looked back. Once I made the 40 day commitment things picked up speed and pretty soon I was only doing Kundalini Yoga, simply because I realized that it works super fast in coordinating the physical body as well as the mind and the other energetic bodies. The thing I wanted to fix with the 40 day commitment, a relationship, was fixed within the first 7 days and I thought it was a miracle. That’s when I got hooked.
Soon after that, I met my teacher, Harijiwan and that’s when things started to pick up speed. Soon after meeting Harijiwan I took the Aquarian Teacher Training course, Level 1 and shortly after that I began teaching. I fell in love with teaching and that’s when I created the Kundalini Yoga Boot Camp. I realized that there were people who could benefit from my experience and leadership.
The result has been miraculous and many people have gone through the boot camp and improved their lives greatly. Some have even gone on to become teachers themselves.
Currently I teach the yoga boot camp in Los Angeles, five days a week. I also teach several other classes, at more decent hours of the day in the Los Angeles area: Goldenbridge Yoga Center, Heartbeat House-Atwater Village and Yoga West – Los Angeles.
I created this site so that people around the world can learn about Kundalini Yoga and Meditation and improve their lives like I did.
